P7 Letter RE Magilligan

23rd Jun 2022

Dear Parent,

The bus will leave the school at 3:30pm for Magilligan Field Centre Thursday 23rd June 2022.  It will return to the school on Friday 24th June 2022 approximately 5:30pm. My understanding is that the secondary schools require the children to be dressed in sportswear for their Open Day.  Therefore, this is helpful for the Magilligan trip as there will be no need to change.  The children can get straight onto the bus.  I want to ensure that the bus leaves the school gates at 3:30pm sharp, so please make your way immediately over to Mullanaskea after the Open Day.

The children can take mobile phones in order to make one phone call home.  The phones must be given to the teachers before we depart from the school. The children will then be issued with their phones in the evening to make their telephone call. After this, the phones must be returned to the teachers for safekeeping.  We would also ask you to label your child’s mobile phone with his/her name clearly marked as well as adding the date and your signature. We ask you to remind the children to respect this policy as it aims to protect the children’s safety and dignity.  It also aims to ensure that the children enjoy the experiences that we provide on this Environmental Science trip.  We want the children to learn about Environmental Science, to enjoy being at the North Antrim Coast and to enjoy each other’s company.  When mobile phones are added or any other electrical equipment these aims become very diluted.  Please also ensure that the children do not take any snacks that would help to contribute to travel sickness: milky drinks, slushy drinks, yogurts, chocolate etc.  Dry snacks are better such as crisps, breads and bottled water.

Although the meals will be provided, I strongly recommend that the children take a good breakfast before they leave as this is quite a long bus journey.  When the children arrive at the Field Centre they will get dinner.  There is also a small tuck shop, so if the children want to bring some money, this is fine.  The Centre staff limit the amount of items that can be bought at the tuck shop.

I, again, want to emphasize the importance of good behaviour.  In the event of behaviour that endangers your child or indeed any other child or behaviour that disregards school rules I will contact the parents and ask you to collect your child from the Field Centre.  As I am sure you can appreciate, this trip is intended, as an educational visit where learning about environmental and geographical issues is the purpose of the visit and our time as well as that of the Field Centre staff needs to be spent as educationalists.  Therefore, I urge you to stress the importance of teamwork, manners, respect, safety etc. to your child prior to undertaking this visit.

If you have any queries do not hesitate to ask me.

Best Wishes,

Ms. O’Neill.
