Dear Parent,

We are delighted to announce that the school has won the Gren Flag for the fifth time from Eco Schools Northern Ireland.  This is a huge initiative that aims to support the environment.  This is achieved by carrying out work on biodiversity, sustainable development goals, energy, thinking about the global perspective, considering healthy living, litter, outdoor learning, transport, water, and waste.

However, at St. Patrick’s P.S. Mullanaskea, the most important thing is to raise awareness of all these issues with the children and to ensure that what they learn becomes lifelong learning with a legacy that they can deliver in whatever situation they find themselves in life.

I want to thank our Environmental Co-ordinator, Mrs. Cox who has taken on her new role with endeavour, sincerity, and enthusiasm.  She has done sterling work not only in transforming the school grounds but in educating young minds.  I also want to thank Claire in the office, Mrs. Ryan and Mrs. McCusker  and who  have ably supported Mrs. Cox.  As the adage goes, ‘it takes a village to raise a child.’ All their skills, time and efforts are much appreciated.

The school’s eco council has been brilliant.  The children in this council work so hard and they do it with conviction.  They are very dedicated.  This year, we had such interest that we have also included a team of eco-warriors.  They too, fulfil the same criteria: hardworking, dedicated and determined to make an environmental difference.

I wish to also thank you, our parents.  Your contribution to the ‘spring clean’ was immense.  This is an important evening; not only to get extra help but again to allow the children to see that we are all singing the same environmental message.

Mrs. Cox will collect the schools special award in June on behalf of the entire team.  Again, my thanks to her and all involved.  We are simply delighted.

My Very Best Wishes,

Ms .O’Neill.
