School Grounds Safety September 2022

22nd Sep 2022

Dear Parent,

I would like to welcome both the children and you back to school.  It is lovely to see you all and it is pleasure to see you at our recent ‘Information’ events.  I want to especially welcome all of the new P.1. children.  I think they have made an excellent start, and also, are settling in very well.

As always, at this time of year, I am issuing a reminder with regard to ensuring maximum safety in the car park and school grounds.

An accident only takes a moment to occur and the consequences could be very significant within a school.  Please slow down.  This is a message for us all, including myself.

Please do not park on the bus lanes.  Parking on the bus lanes blocks the drivers’ views and makes it very difficult for the buses to park.  Please park in a parking space; if the parking spaces are full, please wait until a space becomes available.  When you have safely parked, please accompany your child to the classroom assistants standing outside on duty.  Your child will be chaperoned or directed by the classroom assistant at this point.  P.1., P.2. and P.3. parents normally accompany their young children to their designated class doors at the infants’ area.  For older children travelling by car, a drop off at the main door is acceptable, and the child will be chaperoned/directed by the classroom assistants. Bus children will be chaperoned/directed by the classroom assistants.

For the afternoons, when you collect your child from the designated door, please hold your child/children’s hand until you have safely reached your car.  Please ensure that the children are not running unsupervised in front of vehicles.

There is an arrangement with identified families about specific parking spaces due to their children’s needs.

Apart from these known situations, I ask you to support me for the safety of the children, parents, grandparents and staff.

My Very Best Wishes to You All,

Ms. O’Neill.
