First Holy Communion 2022 Thanks

9th May 2022

Dear Parent,

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of the P.4. children who celebrated their Holy Communion on Saturday.  The children were simply wonderful.  They read perfectly, sang perfectly, took their positions perfectly and their behaviour was exemplary.  We are so proud of each of them.

I would like to say a very big thank you to Ms. McAloon who prepared the children in her own exact and organised way.  She is a credit and we are all very thankful to her.  To Mrs. O’Connor, who prepared and organised the choir, I would like to say a special thank you.  The choir sounded heavenly.  It was just lovely to hear children’s voices again after two years of restrictions due to COVID 19.  Each choir member was totally committed, and again, performed beautifully.

To Mrs. McCusker, the P.4. classroom assistant, I say another special thank you.  She is devoted to the class. To Mrs. Maguire, and to Claire in the office, a very special thank you for all their hard work before, during and after the Holy Communion. To Mrs. Cox, Mrs. Hanna, Mr. Conlon, Mr. McKeever who all worked very hard, a big thank you also goes to each of you.

The tea party was just splendid.  Everyone was in their finery and the cream cakes were in abundance.  To Mrs. O’Connor, and her P.3. parents, who organised this huge event, all credit to each of you for your immense efforts. To the P.T.A., I also extend my appreciation.  Mary Love, former parent, was just wonderful organising and serving on the day.  We hold Mary and her daughter Melissa very close to us at Mullanaskea.  Many P.3. parents also donated lots of food for the tea party, without this, we could not have coped.  I am also conscious of the Spring Clean Up that our P.T.A. and many parents were involved in a couple of weeks ago clearing the outdoors and ensuring that the children’s day was special.

Father Halton delivered a very touching homily, and I think he was also pleased to see the Holy Communion celebrations operating as they have in previous years.

I think it was one of the finest hours we have had at Mullanaskea.  We all missed the community element that this event generates and we missed being together.  To see the children, their parents, grandparents and wider family was very special.  We are so grateful that we can all celebrate again.

My Thanks and Best Wishes to You All,

Ms. O’Neill.
