Day 6 of Summer Scheme

19th Jul 2021

It truly felt that the actual heat of the African continent had made its way to Mullanaskea today as we played on authentic Djembe Drums with the help and guidance of  Ronan Mc Kee. The children learned to play an African song dance from Senegal called “Su”.

This dance was performed for the medicine man during a ceremony. The community would come together to create positive energy and love. This in turn helped the medicine man heal the community.

If ever we have needed healing, positive energy and love, we have needed it after this unprecedented year. So today, the incredible children of Mullanaskea, came together as a community and made the most amazing sound. They watched, listened, played and worked as one group to lift the complete roof off of the school. It was superb.

To balance the crazy drumming vibe we all sat down to another creative but calmer activity making the most lovely little fridge magnets. Working off a pre-recorded Zoom message from Tanya Trimble of “Jumping Clay”, the children created a Funky Pineapple or a Party Monkey magnet. They all did a fantastic job. So we are off to Johnny Rockos tomorrow. We might need a dip in the Lough to cool down when we get back😂😂
